Unfinished Ponderings #2

My first post of 2021 should absolutely have been about Dune and my weekly book club, but I became so overwhelmed with the vaccination station this week that I entirely forgot this post was in Draft.

We are rapidly approaching the end of Chapterhouse and I actually cannot believe that. I don’t really enjoy this one, and neither does the crew. It feels as if Herbert is just repeating himself using less interesting structures and characters – or maybe we’re just not as invested in this plot, which is so far strayed from the original (I mean, literally, thousands of years have passed). The characters aren’t uninteresting. We loved Reverend Mother Darwi Odrade in Heretics but maybe less so here as a sort of depressed Mother Superior. We loved Miles Teg as the 300+ Bashar in the last novel, like, REALLY loved him. But this young Teg who goes through his awakening? Not cool.

Here is Part 2 of “What was she getting and why was it never gotten?” In the heat and height of reading Dune, I had so many thoughts about the random turn of events in the penultimate and ultimate chronicles, and new characters that I quite enjoyed. But WHAT DOES IT MEAN???
